Mitsotakis at UN Ocean Summit
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is traveling to Nice, France, for the 3rd UN Ocean Conference, taking place on June 8–9. He will emphasize Greece's commitment to ocean protection and its progress toward sustainable marine resource management, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian
Mitsotakis is expected to highlight Greece’s key initiatives, including the establishment of two new National Marine Parks in the Ionian and Aegean Seas, aiming to expand protected marine areas to 30% of national waters. This follows Greece's successful hosting of the 9th Our Ocean Conference in April, which secured 471 new commitments totaling $11 billion — 21 of them from Greece.
Maritime security will also feature prominently in his remarks, aligning with Greece’s priorities as an elected member of the UN Security Council (2025–2026). Mitsotakis recently chaired a related high-level discussion at the UN headquarters in New York.
In Nice, he will also join French President Emmanuel Macron at the “Connected Mediterranean” summit, focused on regional collaboration and infrastructure. He will attend a leaders' dinner hosted by Macron on Sunday and participate in EU and Mediterranean-focused events on Monday.
