Romania details US partnership goals ahead of NATO Summit - EXCLUSIVE
As the NATO Summit approaches, Romania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening the country's Strategic Partnership with the United States, describing it as a cornerstone of its foreign policy.
In an exclusive interview with CE Report, the Ministry highlighted the steady development of the partnership since its launch in 1997, driven by shared interests and mutual responsibility in addressing global and regional security challenges.
“One of the key pillars of the partnership is robust security cooperation, such as hosting critical installations like the Ballistic Missile Defense site in Deveselu,” the Ministry noted. “Romania is also implementing substantial defense programs aimed at achieving full interoperability with US forces.”
The Ministry emphasized that energy cooperation is another strategic area. American companies are playing a vital role in bringing Black Sea gas to market, and Romania is set to become the first European country to implement a US-designed small modular reactor (SMR) as part of an ambitious civil nuclear program.
“These and many other examples of mutually beneficial cooperation form a solid foundation for the further development of the Strategic Partnership with the US,” the Ministry stated.
Romania also reiterated its firm support for broader transatlantic ties, including NATO-EU cooperation, which it described as a cornerstone of peace, security, and economic growth on both sides of the Atlantic.
