The German Foreign Ministry has reiterated its full support for the EU’s efforts to normalize relations between Kosovo and Serbia, responding to a media inquiry by CE Report.

Germany remains committed to continuing and intensifying the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, which it describes as the only viable path to lasting peace and stability in the region. In an official response, Samy Sakka, spokesperson of the Federal Foreign Office, stated:

“We fully support the efforts of EU Special Envoy Peter Sorensen and continue to urge both sides to engage in constructive talks to resolve the conflicts.”

He also called on both parties to implement the Ohrid Agreement and to remain committed to dialogue. Sakka emphasized that tangible progress has already been achieved in resolving several contentious issues, including energy disputes in northern Kosovo and the mutual recognition of vehicle license plates.

Germany is also advocating for pragmatic solutions and stronger regional cooperation through the Berlin Process, which, he said, will benefit both Kosovo and Serbia.

“We are pushing for pragmatic solutions and increased regional cooperation in the Berlin Process, which will also positively affect Kosovo and Serbia regionally,” Sakka added.

The statement comes after EU Special Envoy Peter Sorensen’s meetings in Berlin with senior German officials to discuss advancing the normalization process.
