Bolojan: EU, NATO, U.S. Are Key Pillars

Politics

Interim Romanian President Ilie Bolojan emphasized on Wednesday that the country’s foreign policy under his leadership was built on three key pillars: EU membership, NATO, and the strategic partnership with the United States, CE Report quotes Agerpres

Speaking at a press conference, Bolojan said EU integration provided not just development opportunities but also upheld core values. He called NATO membership essential to Romania’s security and credited the U.S. alliance as a cornerstone of the country’s strategic stability.

Reflecting on his challenging tenure—marked by political uncertainty, international tension, and low public trust—Bolojan stressed Romania’s consistent stance on the Ukraine war and support for Moldova. He also highlighted progress in defense discussions, including Eastern Flank security and integrating Romania’s defense industry into the European framework.

Bolojan thanked the Romanian government, especially former Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, for collaboration during a period of political and fiscal pressure, noting that this partnership helped maintain Romania’s credibility on international issues.
