EU's Role in New World Order

Politics

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Tuesday that former US President Donald Trump's policies have triggered “historic” global changes, prompting Europe to take a more active role in shaping a new world order, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

In an interview with Die Zeit, she stated that “the West as we knew it no longer exists,” pointing to rising geopolitical tensions, including US-China rivalry and Russia’s actions. Von der Leyen emphasized the EU's growing global relevance due to its stability and reliability, which is attracting new international partnerships.

While acknowledging strong trade ties with the US, she noted that 87% of global trade occurs beyond it, and many countries—including Canada, India, and Mexico—are seeking closer cooperation with the EU on trade and shared values.
