Moldova Rejects Russian World

Politics

Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean firmly declared that Moldova will never return to its Soviet past or become part of the "Russian world." In an interview with Ukrainian journalist Dmitri Gordon, Recean emphasized Moldova’s commitment to European integration, calling it the only viable path for the nation’s development, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

He accused Russia of meddling in Moldova’s internal affairs through propaganda, election interference, and financial influence, calling Kremlin-backed efforts a threat to the country’s democracy. Recean also condemned the presence of Russian troops in Transnistria, stating that Moldova’s constitutional neutrality is violated only by Russia.

Reflecting on the early days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Recean admitted that if Russian forces had reached Chisinau, Moldova might not have lasted more than 72 hours. He expressed deep appreciation for Ukraine’s resistance, saying it helped protect Moldova as well.

Recean criticized Russia's prioritization of war over development, wishing instead that Russians could focus on building a prosperous and democratic society. If given the chance to speak to President Putin, Recean said he would urge him to invest in Russia’s future rather than war.
