Greece Emphasizes Global Cooperation Amid Multiple Crises

Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis arrived at the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union, highlighting the urgency of addressing multiple global crises. Regarding the Middle East, Gerapetritis expressed strong support for the continuation of the ceasefire in Lebanon and Gaza, emphasizing the importance of advancing negotiations for a lasting peace. He also voiced deep concern over the escalating situation in the West Bank and called for intensified efforts to end the conflict, emphasizing the need for a solution that enables the establishment of a Palestinian state.

The Foreign Minister condemned recent violent events in Syria, particularly the attacks on civilians, and stressed the importance of translating the transitional government's rhetoric into action based on inclusivity and respect for international law. He reiterated that any easing of sanctions should be gradual, conditional, and reversible.

On Euro-Atlantic relations, Gerapetritis underscored the need for strong ties between Europe and the United States, emphasizing Europe's strength and revitalization. He also highlighted the start of informal talks on the Cyprus issue in Geneva under the UN’s auspices, asserting that Cyprus should no longer be divided, as division cannot be the solution.
