Moldova to Open Embassy in Kazakhstan and Expand Global Diplomatic Presence

Moldova plans to establish an embassy in Kazakhstan this year, marking a significant step in its diplomatic outreach. The announcement came from Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi during an interview with a public radio station, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

Popsoi emphasized the importance of this initiative, noting that Moldova currently lacks diplomatic representation in Central Asia despite historical ties and substantial economic potential in the region. "Kazakhstan is a strong economy, and this embassy will foster commercial exchanges and collaboration with neighboring states like Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. The embassy is set to open next spring or later this year, depending on both sides’ schedules," he said.

The minister also revealed plans to enhance consular services for Moldovan citizens in the United States by opening consulates in Chicago and Sacramento in 2025.

Popsoi highlighted Moldova's broader strategy to expand its diplomatic presence in key economic regions, including Egypt, South Korea, and Norway, a staunch supporter of the country. He emphasized Moldova's efforts to attract investments and boost exports through these initiatives.

In addition, Popsoi hailed Israel's decision to open an embassy in Chisinau, alongside Ireland's recent announcement of the same. Norway and Greece have also inaugurated embassy offices in Moldova's capital, signaling stronger ties with European partners.

“These developments reflect the growing trust and respect Moldova enjoys internationally, thanks to our diplomatic efforts and the leadership of President Maia Sandu,” Popsoi concluded.
