President Sergio Mattarella said that 19th-century power politics are back in today's world, CE Report quotes ANSA.

"It is a period of great international tensions due to the many conflicts and due to the return to 19th-century politics of power," he told the Secretaries of Legation of the Farnesina foreign ministry at the Quirinale presidential palace.

"It almost seems that we are seeing a return to a politics of power that is alien to the times.

"There is an evident contrast with the needs of the world that would require common and shared answers.

"It is truly a singular contradiction".
