Turkish and Slovenian Foreign Ministers Discuss Strategic Partnership and Regional Issues in Ankara

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Slovenia's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon in Ankara on Monday during her visit for the 9th Türkiye-Slovenia Joint Economic Commission (JEC) meeting, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Fidan emphasized the progress in bilateral ties under the 2024-2026 Strategic Partnership Action Plan and reaffirmed Türkiye's commitment to enhancing trade and economic cooperation. Both sides stressed the untapped potential for collaboration in the defense industry.

Discussions also focused on addressing challenges in the Balkans through dialogue, advancing Türkiye-EU relations, and the future stability of post-Assad Syria with international support. The urgent need for a permanent cease-fire in Gaza and uninterrupted humanitarian aid delivery was also highlighted.

Fajon inaugurated the “The Marie Curies of the Mediterranean” exhibition at Middle East Technical University, showcasing women scientists from 22 countries, including 19 from the Mediterranean region. She is also scheduled to meet Trade Minister Omer Bolat and participate in the JEC session with Youth and Sports Minister Osman Askin Bak.

Türkiye and Slovenia have maintained strong ties since Türkiye recognized Slovenia in 1992, with embassies established in Ljubljana and Ankara in the 1990s and a strategic partnership declaration in 2011.
