Digital Minister Proposes "Kids Wallet" to Curb Social Media Exposure Among Minors

The "Kids Wallet" will serve as a parental tool to manage minors' social media exposure, said Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou during an interview with public broadcaster ERT1. He emphasized the importance of parental involvement, stating, "No ban will work if we don't talk to our children." CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

Papastergiou highlighted a growing issue, noting that parents often ignore the risks of unrestricted phone use, opting for convenience over awareness. "It's easy to announce bans, but without proper enforcement, they become meaningless," he explained.

The proposed "Kids Wallet" would use the civil registry to verify a child's age digitally. This system aims to ensure platforms require age certification, with hopes of establishing a unified European tool for age verification.
