Moldovan Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu participated in the International Democracy Union (IDU) forum in Washington during an official visit to the United States. In his speech, he highlighted the challenges facing Moldova and the broader region, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

Grosu reflected on the recent electoral challenges in Moldova, describing them as a critical moment in the country’s fight to stay on its European path. "A month ago, Moldovans faced a hybrid war of information technologies and social networks aimed at derailing our historic chance to integrate with Europe," he stated.

He praised the resilience of Moldovan citizens, emphasizing their determination to align with European values despite external pressures. "Moldovans have shown the world that their voice and desire to join the European family outweigh Kremlin propaganda and the millions spent on destabilizing efforts," Grosu said.

The Speaker highlighted Moldova's efforts to strengthen its democracy, including enshrining a pro-European direction in its Constitution and electing a pro-European president. However, he warned of continued challenges, including Russia's influence in the region through criminal networks, propaganda, and energy dependency. "This winter, the Kremlin is cynically using the gas issue to create dependency and chaos in former areas of influence," he noted.

Grosu called for greater support from democratic forces worldwide to help Moldova remain part of the free world and solidify its European aspirations.

The International Democracy Union is a global alliance of political parties with 73 members from 63 countries. Grosu’s visit to the U.S. also included meetings with Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi to strengthen bilateral relations.
