Mickoski, Costa reaffirm shared commitment to North Macedonia’s EU path
Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski described his meeting in Brussels with the President of the European Council, António Costa, as “friendly and fairly productive”, during which, he said, “we absolutely reaffirmed our unified positions”.
The Prime Minister said the meeting in Brussels discussed relevant topics, the country’s accession to the European Union and the formal beginning of negotiations, CE Report quotes MIA.
“We had our first meeting [with President Costa] exactly one year ago when Mr. Costa was elected President of the European Council, and since then we have fostered really friendly and sincere relations. Mr. Costa is a great friend to Macedonia, and today’s meeting was held in that spirit. We absolutely reaffirmed our unified positions, which are truly dignified positions after all the humiliations we’ve endured over the past 25 years, practically since our journey toward EU integration began,” Mickoski said after the meeting.
Mickoski said the meeting was friendly and “fairly productive”, noting that everything that is a priority of the country is a priority for Costa as well.
“In addition to the EU accession and the beginning of negotiations, we discussed several projects that are strategically important for us – the gas interconnector with Serbia and a branch to neighboring Kosovo. We also discussed tariffs on steel and steel products from Macedonian products, as well as the Government’s joint project with the European Commission that related to initiatives we plan to realize in Kochani and the Kochani region. All in all, I can say we had an extremely successful and productive meeting. We will continue with our meetings here in Brussels. We have an event with Euronews, and a dinner this evening with Commissioner Marta Kos, and I hope – and am confident – that we’ll receive positive news,” Mickoski said.
On Tuesday afternoon, PM Mickoski will participate in the Euronews EU Enlargement Summit in Brussels.
