Dozens of cats found living in unsuitable conditions in Paris
Animal rights activists discovered more than 75 cats in a small apartment in Paris, French media reported Monday, as cited by DPA.
Following the forced eviction of a social housing apartment in the 15th arrondissement, police and a bailiff requested assistance from the charity YouCare, Le Parisien reported, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
On Thursday, volunteers found 75 cats in the 50-square-meter apartment, the organization’s president, Thomas Moreau, said.
The animals were living in unsuitable conditions, and some were taken to a veterinary clinic.
“Dead kittens were found in the freezer,” Moreau added.
The organization was unable to take in all the cats and issued an appeal for help. Around 30 cats remained temporarily in the apartment and will be cared for by volunteers.
The association’s president said the incident was likely a case of animal hoarding. In France, the condition is known as “Noah syndrome,” a term derived from the biblical figure Noah and his ark.
People suffering from this psychiatric condition accumulate large numbers of pets in a confined space without being able to properly care for, feed or provide adequate medical treatment for them.
