Albania’s minister inspects summer health center in Golem
Minister of Health and Social Protection of Albania Albana Koçiu conducted an inspection at the summer health center in Golem, one of 36 centers opened along the coastline and in areas with high tourist traffic.
During the visit, the Minister praised the work of the medical staff and the infrastructure provided to handle the influx of visitors during the summer months, emphasizing the importance of these facilities in delivering fast, effective, and accessible healthcare services to citizens.
“It is for good reason that we have established 36 summer health centers this year across Albania, near the coastline or in areas with high tourist density, precisely to avoid unnecessary visits to hospital facilities for the needs a visitor may have at a given moment, whether it’s a medication or a medical intervention that could even save a life in specific cases,” Koçiu said.
The Minister also highlighted that services at these centers are free for everyone, regardless of whether they are residents of Albania.
“It should be emphasized that we provide services in the same way to those who are not residents of Albania — free of charge, without queues, waiting lists, or prior appointments,” Koçiu stated.
In this context, the Minister encouraged newly graduated young medical professionals to join these centers to gain their first practical experience.
“This is a very valuable experience for young graduates who want their first hands-on practice, and there is no better place than these centers, where unexpected cases, various illnesses, and health issues arise and are treated,” she said.
Focusing on the work and effectiveness of the Golem summer health center, Koçiu noted that “over 3,000 visits have been received at this center since it opened on June 1” and added that “the center will remain open until the end of August.”
In conclusion, Minister Albana Koçiu highlighted the infrastructure of this Health Center, which is equipped with all necessary tools allowing staff to provide proper care.
With all essential medical equipment and qualified, dedicated staff, the summer health centers across the country continue to play a crucial role in the chain of rapid response and in providing timely assistance to holidaymakers and foreign tourists during the tourist season.
