Travis Scott faces backlash in Istanbul
American rapper Travis Scott sparked anger among Turkish fans, who loudly booed him in Istanbul early Monday morning after a performance many considered far too short, according to videos and testimonies shared on social media, AFP reported.
One of the ticket-selling websites had promised, for prices starting at several hundred euros, “a performance that goes beyond a classic concert” for an audience of only 2,500 people, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
However, Travis Scott, who was advertised as the event’s “host,” disappeared after spending only 20 minutes on stage, prompting boos from the crowd, according to several videos posted online.
A concert poster promoted a “DJ Set & Mic” by the American star from 11:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., alongside performances by lesser-known artists.
“Shameful event. We were told he would arrive at 11:00 p.m., and he showed up at 12:35 a.m. We stood waiting for hours, sang one song, and then he left. We wasted our money,” spectator Ala Artan wrote on Instagram.
Other fans, including one who claimed to have paid more than €1,100 for a VIP ticket — more than twice the minimum monthly wage in Türkiye — demanded refunds in comments posted in response to a message from event organizer TemaCC.
Contacted by AFP, company representatives declined to provide additional comments.
“Travis Scott was at the center of the event throughout the evening; he hosted for one hour and delivered an exceptional 20-minute performance,” TemaCC owner Taylan Sizcan said in a statement cited by several Turkish media outlets.
The American rapper, who had never previously performed in Türkiye, is also scheduled to headline another event on Monday night at a nightclub in Izmir.
