A total of 76 films — including 52 in competition and 24 out of competition — from 12 countries will be featured at the 28th Far East Film Festival, presented today by organizers in Udine ahead of the edition scheduled from April 24 to May 2.

The lineup includes 8 world premieres, 18 international premieres, 22 European premieres, and 20 Italian premieres, while the closing film will be announced on April 8, CE Report quotes ANSA.

The new edition of one of Europe’s largest showcases of Asian cinema will also bring to the city of Udine two Golden Mulberry Lifetime Achievement Awards, which will be presented to Chinese actress Fan Bingbing and Japanese actor Koji Yakusho, known for Perfect Days by Wim Wenders.

A special tribute is also planned for Yakusho, featuring the monograph Yakusho Koji – Perfect Roles, which will take place between Udine and Rome.

Among the announced guests is director Lee Sang-il, who will present Kokuho – The Master of Kabuki, a highly anticipated title at the festival ahead of its Italian theatrical release on April 30.

The event will offer nine days of screenings, meetings, and in-depth discussions, with a program that includes industry activities under Focus Asia, journalistic initiatives under Bambù, and educational programs through the Feff Campus.

Overall, the festival aims once again to position Udine as a key hub for observing Asian popular cinema and its evolution, expanding its focus beyond the big screen.

The city center will also be involved through the “Asian Zone,” featuring more than 100 related events, while 14 films will be available online.
