The Zeugma Mosaic Museum in Gaziantep, Türkiye, which hosts many important works, including the world-famous “Gypsy Girl” mosaic, contributes significantly to the city’s tourism thanks to the number of domestic and foreign visitors it attracts.

Established in 2011 by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on a 30,000-square-meter site along the historic Silk Road, the Zeugma Mosaic Museum displays unique mosaics uncovered during rescue excavations at villas along the Euphrates River, as well as the “Gypsy Girl” mosaic, the “Statue of Mars,” and Roman-era fountains, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency.

The museum, which has also received the “Presidential Culture and Arts Grand Award,” broke visitor records in 2025, becoming a driving force in the city’s tourism sector.

Gaziantep Museum Director Özgür Çomak told Anadolu Agency that Zeugma is one of the most important museums of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Emphasizing Zeugma’s international recognition and rich collection, Çomak said: “The Zeugma Mosaic Museum is a symbol of Gaziantep and of our country. The Gypsy Girl is one of our most important works and carries international brand value. Besides the Gypsy Girl, we have many other significant works. Important mosaics depicting Roman and Greek mythology are exhibited in our museum.”

“2025 was a record year”

Çomak stated that the museum welcomed 466,000 visitors in 2024 and continued:

“2025 was a record year for us. We reached 616,000 visitors, which is a very high number. We are among the museums with the highest visitor figures. On May 16, 2025, we also broke the all-time daily visitor record by hosting 8,126 people in a single day. We reached 616,000 visitors in 2025, and hopefully 2026 will be even better. I thank the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the governor’s office, the metropolitan municipality, and all partner institutions for their promotional efforts. We aim for new records in the new year.”

Çomak added that the museum contributes greatly to city tourism and noted that Zeugma is the first stop for all cultural tourism tours visiting Gaziantep.
