Bulgaria hosts top historical documentaries

The seventh Dock International Historical Documentary Film Festival opened in Burgas, Bulgaria, CE Report quotes BTA.

The festival, which will take place until September 22, will transform Burgas into a stage for some of the most exciting achievements in the genre in recent years, the organizers emphasized.

"Knowing history means understanding the future. For me, it is a personal compass, as every encounter with the past helps me see tomorrow more clearly," said Dimitar Stoyanovic, one of the creators of the forum.

Out of over 400 applied titles, the selection includes ten films distinguished by their bold visual language and strong messages. Among them are Riefenstahl (Germany), From Ground Zero (Palestine/France/Qatar/Jordan), Budapest Memorandum (Ukraine) and Little Satchmo (USA).

The international jury is chaired by Greek director and screenwriter Maria Douza, with members including actor Malin Krastev, historian Prof. Vesselin Yanchev and animator Vladimir Todorov. The grand prize for the winner is BGN 2,000.

The Dock 2025 programme also includes accompanying screenings dedicated to Bulgarian history, a special film about the Unification of Bulgaria and round tables.

The festival is realized with the support of the National Culture Fund, Burgas Municipality, National Film Centre and is realized under the National Plan for Recovery and Resilience.
