The final weekend of August saw many new releases and strong box office activity in Italian cinemas, with a 28% increase in revenue compared to the previous week, totaling €4.27 million, CE Report quotes ANSA.

At the top of the box office is the new CGI animated film The Smurfs, rebooting Peyo’s iconic blue characters in a Hollywood-style production. The film grossed €1.2 million over the weekend, and €1.54 million in five days.

Previously at number one, The Bad Guys 2 drops to second place with €681,374, reaching a total of €2.58 million after two weeks.

Debuting in third is The Roses, a modern, unfaithful remake of The War of the Roses, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman, with a €412,688 opening.

Returning classic Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire lands in fourth place, bringing in €399,946 from its 20th-anniversary re-release.

Horror mystery Weapons by Zach Cregger comes in fifth with €309,923, totaling €2.66 million after four weeks.

At sixth, Darren Aronofsky’s dark comedy An Uncomfortable Circumstance earns €157,329 in its opening weekend.

Seventh is Enzo, starring Pierfrancesco Favino, about a teenager’s journey of self-discovery in the French countryside, with €150,753.

Eighth is All the Rock’s Fault, a music-infused Italian comedy with Lillo, Maurizio Lastrico, and Elio, debuting at €115,680.

Ninth place goes to Warfare – Time of War, a war film about the 2006 Battle of Ramadi, earning €113,236, now at €547,670 total.

Closing the top 10 is Fantastic Four: Origins, which adds €109,815 to its €8.25 million total in its sixth week.
