Herrmann to Play at Jam on the River
German cellist and composer Christopher Herrmann will perform alongside Greek qanun player Eleanna Pitsikaki at the Jam on the River International Music and Arts Festival in Debnevo, near Troyan, Bulgaria, on July 31.
Known for his versatile style and interdisciplinary artistry, Herrmann has toured internationally across the US and Europe. In a recent interview, he said he plays music that speaks to him personally—even if that means diverging from the written score, CE Report quotes BTA
Having picked up the cello at age 12, Herrmann also developed a love for lower-register instruments like the double bass and bass clarinet. He praised the cello’s adaptability, describing it as capable of imitating everything from a jazz saxophone to traditional folk instruments.
In 2023, Herrmann dedicated two hours of daily solo practice to deepen his connection with the cello. “The goal is to feel more comfortable with my instrument—everything else comes later,” he said.
He also expressed admiration for Bulgarian audiences and highlighted accordionist Veronika Todorova as a key influence and friend connected to the festival.
