The 50th edition of the Osor Musical Evenings will start on Thursday in the town of Osor on the Croatian island of Cres with a performance of early Baroque music, "Vespro della Beata Vergine" by Claudio Monteverdi, CE Report quotes HINA.

"Founded in the mid-1970s, the Osor Musical Evenings continue to adhere to its primary premise even in the fifth decade of its continuing existence – encouraging the creation of Croatian musical works. The Renaissance Cathedral of Osor, the central stage of the festival, has so far hosted nearly 800 concerts with over 300 works commissioned by the Festival from all generations of composers," according to the information on the festival's website.

Until 19 August, the church in Osor will host 16 concerts featuring prominent domestic and international musicians. The press release highlights performances by the String Quintet of the Berlin Philharmonic, the Italian ensemble Il Pomo d’Oro, and the Busch Piano Trio from the Netherlands.

Concerts will also be given by leading figures of Croatia’s classical music scene, including Monika Leskovar, Martina Filjak, Krešimir Stražanac, and Dubravka Šeparović Mušović.
