Greece names 2025 Project of the Year

The Patras-Pyrgos motorway has been named Project of the Year for 2025 at the 9th Infrastructure and Transport Conference - ITC 2026, being held at the Athens Concert Hall - International Conference Centre in Greece.

The award was presented to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, as the contracting authority and implementing body; Olympia Odos, as the concessionaire; and the construction companies - members of the APION KLEOS consortium - TERNA, AKTOR and AVAX, CE Report quotes ANA-MPA.

Konstantinos Makedos, president of the scientific committee that selected the Patras-Pyrgos motorway as Project of the Year, together with the public vote, said the committee unanimously chose the project because of its development impact and the role it will play in the region.

Nikos Tachiaos, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, referred to the political intervention required to reintegrate the project into the Olympia Odos concession and invited Dimitris Anagnopoulos, Secretary-General for Infrastructure, to accept the award.

“ The Patras-Pyrgos motorway was a project with a long and particularly challenging journey. Major projects are completed when planning is backed by determination, institutional consistency and cooperation,” he said.

The Patras-Pyrgos motorway was completed in approximately 3.5 years. It comprises 75 kilometres of motorway, with two lanes and an emergency lane in each direction, 15 bridges, nine interchanges and 64 crossings.
