Bosnia ranks second globally in coffee consumption

Bosnia and Herzegovina ranks second in the world for per capita coffee consumption, with an average of 14.26 kilograms of coffee consumed per person annually.

Ireland topped the global list in 2023, with its residents currently consuming the most coffee, at 15.79 kilograms per person per year, CE Report quotes FENA.

Behind Ireland and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lebanon ranks third with 12.91 kilograms, followed by New Zealand (12.81 kg), Georgia (12.52 kg), and Serbia in sixth place with 12.15 kilograms per capita.

The remaining countries in the top 10 for coffee consumption are Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Bulgaria.

BiH ranked first in the world in 2021

Interestingly, the top of the ranking has changed considerably over the past decade. Finland dominated in 2010 with 13.78 kilograms per capita, before Greece took first place in 2013.

Due to its strong coffee-drinking tradition, Lebanon ranked first in 2015, while Serbia took the top spot in 2020.

Bosnia and Herzegovina was the absolute world leader in coffee consumption in 2021, before Ireland climbed sharply from the middle of the ranking to take first place in 2023.

Data based on FAO reports

The published data are based on reports by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and measure the availability of coffee for consumption in green coffee bean equivalent.

Only countries with populations of more than three million were included in the study, excluding countries such as Luxembourg and the Maldives from the top of the ranking, where unusually high figures are primarily attributed to cross-border purchases and tourism.
