EU Backs Revised “Greece 2.0” Recovery Plan
The European Commission has endorsed Greece’s revised National Recovery and Resilience Plan, “Greece 2.0,” ensuring the country fully utilizes its allocation from the Recovery Fund without any reduction in funding, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia
The updated plan adjusts certain actions for technical and management reasons, reinforces high-demand initiatives, and introduces new projects. These include safety upgrades in the country’s largest railway tunnels, smart pedestrian crossings near schools, smart road lighting, and 175 additional electric buses for Athens and Thessaloniki.
Other additions focus on digital transformation in education, public health, and urban planning, including interactive whiteboards in schools, illegal construction detection systems, and enhanced civil protection infrastructure.
These changes were made possible by reallocating resources from projects unlikely to be completed on time, such as some digital upgrades and the Almopaio Dam. The “Green Taxi” and “Charge Everywhere” programs were also replaced due to low market interest.
Deputy Finance Minister Nikos Papathanasis noted the proposal was submitted in May 2025. Final approval by the ECOFIN Council is expected in July.
