Moldova Launches 8 Billion Lei +Plus Budget

Moldova’s government has introduced the +Plus Budget, an unprecedented 8 billion lei financial package focused on investment and development, not electoral gain, according to government spokesperson Daniel Voda, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

Voda emphasized that the funds—split equally between energy resilience and local economic projects—are aimed at modernizing the country and addressing real needs. "These allocations are not for elections but for Moldova’s future," he said at a weekly press briefing.

The government postponed a cabinet meeting to encourage debate and input on the budget, which Voda says is funded largely by European support. “This is European and Moldovan taxpayers’ money delivering real results,” he added.

Rejecting claims of political motives, Voda pointed out that Moldova has held elections annually for the past four years, and halting investments would hinder national progress. Approved in the first reading last week, the +Plus Budget marks the largest development-focused allocation in the country’s history.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean credited close cooperation with EU partners and public servants for securing early transfers from the EU’s Growth Plan for Moldova, enabling the swift launch of the initiative.
