Hellenic Coffee Association Urges Tax Reduction Amid Coffee Price Surge

Business

The Hellenic Coffee Association recently held discussions with party representatives and Finance Minister Kostis Chatzidakis to address rising coffee prices and advocate for the reduction or cancellation of the Special Consumer Tax on unprocessed coffee in Greece, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

The Association highlighted that green Arabica and Robusta coffee prices have reached a 50-year high on the New York and London Stock Exchanges. This surge is attributed to declining crop yields due to climate change and increased demand from emerging markets.

In meetings with representatives from SYRIZA, PASOK, and Nea Aristera, as well as the finance minister, the Association also raised concerns about the existing profit margin regulations and a temporary ban on promotional actions for supermarket products with price increases.

The Association emphasized the urgent need for measures to ease the financial strain on the coffee industry and consumers.
