Von der Leyen emphasized her optimism about Moldova's progress towards European Union membership, with accession negotiations expected to begin in 2025.

"President Maia Sandu is passionately fighting for Moldova's European future. Today, we announced €50 million to support reforms and economic stability, along with €10 million to accelerate the evaluation of judicial integrity, a crucial step for upholding the rule of law," von der Leyen said.

President Sandu highlighted the importance of justice reform in Moldova's EU aspirations, noting the focus on assessing the integrity of judges and prosecutors. "We are advancing towards the European Union for a better life for all Moldovans, with strong support from our European partners," she stated.

Sandu's visit to Brussels, from 10–11 December, includes discussions with key EU leaders, including European Council President António Costa, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The meetings focus on Moldova's integration into the EU single market, attracting investments, improving infrastructure, and strengthening energy security.

This visit underscores Moldova’s commitment to advancing EU membership and improving living standards through deeper cooperation with European partners.
