CEC to Recalculate October 2024 Election Results
The Central Election Commission (CEC) is working on recalculating the results of the October 2024 parliamentary elections as instructed by the Constitutional Court, CEC Deputy Chair Rositsa Mateva stated on Bulgarian National Television, CE Report quotes BTA
The court ordered the recalculation on October 26 following appeals from several parties disputing the outcome. The CEC has tasked election service operator Information Services with the process.
Mateva explained that computers have been set up at the CEC, and teams are inputting data twice to prevent errors. The recalculations are expected to be completed by the end of next week before submission to the Constitutional Court. However, the CEC will not count ballots or review election materials.
She also noted minor discrepancies with invalid ballots but found no evidence of manipulation. Regarding potential changes in mandates, Mateva emphasized that it is too early to speculate. She clarified that errors were not limited to the Velichie party, which narrowly missed entering Parliament with 3.999% of the vote.
