Political Negotiations in Bulgaria: Parties Discuss Governance Agreement

Bulgaria

Negotiation teams from GERB-UDF, Democratic Bulgaria (DB), BSP - United Left, and There Is Such a People (TISP) convened at the National Assembly to discuss proposals for a governance agreement, GERB announced on Facebook, CE Report quotes BTA

Key topics included setting governance priorities and establishing decision-making processes for a potential ruling coalition. The discussions aim to finalize commitments to judicial reform, anti-corruption measures, and other policy priorities.

On December 30, 2024, GERB-UDF and Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) presented drafts of a coalition agreement. Both sides confirmed ongoing efforts to finalize a text and indicated plans for broader talks involving BSP and TISP, though a date has yet to be set.

Earlier in December, GERB-UDF and DB reached consensus on advancing energy projects, renewable investments, and reforms under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, alongside commitments to cybersecurity and anti-corruption efforts.

Meanwhile, Continue the Change (CC), part of the CC-DB coalition, has withheld participation in negotiations, demanding GERB-UDF address concerns about the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) and propose a neutral candidate for prime minister.

GERB and BSP also held talks, emphasizing the need for an anti-corruption, pro-European majority and agreeing on measures to reduce inequality, adopt a balanced budget, and attract investment.
