Zelenskyy Proposes Pre-Summit Ceasefire

War in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed an unconditional ceasefire with Russia until a summit between the countries' leaders takes place. He said Kyiv is ready to meet "any day" in Istanbul, Switzerland, or the Vatican, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Zelenskyy noted that Russia indicated only its leadership can decide on a ceasefire, prompting his proposal. He urged international support and mentioned that U.S. President Donald Trump’s backing would be welcomed. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has already expressed support for a potential meeting including Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Zelenskyy.

“If the meeting fails to de-escalate the conflict, Russia can end the ceasefire the same day,” he said. “But if there’s willingness to ease tensions, we’ll continue with American mediation.”

The proposal follows recent talks in Istanbul, where Ukraine suggested a leaders’ summit later this month.
