Coast Guard Reports Calm Conditions Amid Engine Issue on Cruise Ship
A malfunction occurred on the cruise ship MSC World Europa about 8 nautical miles off the island of Ponza, CE Report quotes ANSA.
According to the Coast Guard, the issue was reported at 07:25 this morning when the ship, sailing from Genoa to Naples with 8,585 people on board (6,496 passengers and 2,089 crew members), communicated an electrical problem with its engines.
The situation on board, the Coast Guard said, is calm: weather and sea conditions are favorable, and essential services for passengers continue to be supplied by the ship’s generators.
Two tugboats have already departed — one from Gioia Tauro and one from Naples — to assist the cruise ship and safely escort it to the port of Naples.
