Italy's top destinations for luxury tourism revealed

Italy's 5-star hotels generated turnover of over nine billion euros in 2024, attracting 4.5 million guests and registering 12.8 overnight stays, according to a report on luxury tourism released by the Demoskopika institute, CE Report quotes ANSA.

The luxury segment accounts for 16.8% of the overall earnings of the hotel sector, which amount to 54 billion euros, the study said.

The luxury segment grew 9.2% a year between 2008 and 2024, excluding the two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, while the sector as a whole grew 5.2% a year on average.

Demoskopika said it expects high-range tourism to attract 4.6 million visitors and 12.9 million overnight stays this year, increases of 2% and 1.4% respectively on 2024.

It said the tourists from Germany, the United States, the UK, Switzerland, France, Austria, Spain, the Netherlands, Canada, Australia and Japan accounted for 65% of the guests at luxury hotels.

Italy's top region for luxury tourism is Lazio, following by Campania, Lombardy, Sardinia and Veneto, according to the report.
