Amazon plans to replace over 500,000 jobs with robots
Amazon plans to replace more than half a million jobs with robots, CE Report quotes ANSA.
According to the New York Times, citing some internal documents, managers of the retail giant told the board of directors that they hope automation will allow the company to avoid increasing its workforce in the coming years despite the forecast of doubling product sales by 2033.
To mitigate the effects of automation on communities, Amazon has begun drafting plans and evaluating changes in language.
Instead of "automation" and "artificial intelligence," it is preferable to use the term "advanced technology."
The word "robot" should be replaced by "cobot" to imply greater collaboration with humans.
Amazon clarifies that the documents seen by the New York Times represent the vision of one division of the company, not the group’s overall strategy, and that only 250,000 hires are planned for the upcoming holiday season.
