FIFA to distribute record money to clubs for 2026 World Cup
FIFA has revealed that it will distribute a record-breaking $355 million to clubs worldwide under its Club Benefits Program (CBP) linked to the 2026 World Cup, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
For the first time, payments will cover not only the release of players for the tournament's final stage but also for the qualifying matches.
This decision follows an agreement reached between FIFA and the European Club Association (ECA) in March 2023, aimed at creating a more fair and inclusive system, ensuring benefits for clubs across all continents. The amount to be distributed is about 70% higher than the $209 million allocated after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino commented:
"A record sum of $355 million will be distributed to clubs for the release of their players. This strengthens our collaboration with the ECA and clubs worldwide as we look forward to an innovative and globally inclusive World Cup next year."
The President of the ECA, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, also welcomed the agreement, emphasizing that this initiative recognizes the crucial role of clubs in the development of international football and ensures that more clubs will be rewarded for their contributions.
In the 2022 edition in Qatar, $209 million was distributed among 440 clubs from 51 FIFA member associations. The 2026 World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 19, 2026, across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
