Romanian canoeist Catalin Chirila claimed gold in the men's 1,000-metre single event at the 2025 ECA Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe European Championships in Racice, Czech Republic. He retained his title from last year’s competition in Szeged, finishing in 3:46.781. In the 200-metre canoe single final, Romania's Ilie Sprincean placed 7th (39.628). Spain’s Pablo Grana won gold (38.291), ahead of Poland’s Oleksii Koliadych (38.338) and Ukraine’s Andrii Rîbaciok (38.544).

Chirila and Sprincean will compete again on Sunday in the 500-metre events. At last year's championships, Chirila won gold in the 1,000 m and finished fourth in the 500 m. Sprincean and teammate Oleg Nuta placed ninth in the 500 m and sixth in the 1,000 m doubles.
