Romania Tops Cyprus 2-0
Romania secured a 2-0 victory over Cyprus on Tuesday night at the National Arena in Bucharest, keeping their hopes alive in Group H of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, CE Report quotes Agerpres
First-half goals from Florin Tănase (43’) and Dennis Man (45+2’) were enough to seal the win. Despite a lackluster overall performance, the Tricolours controlled the match and faced little threat from their opponents.
Tănase and Popescu had early chances, while a controversial foul by Cyprus' Kastanos in the 25th minute led to a VAR review that upheld a yellow card. Romania's breakthrough came just before halftime, with Tănase finishing off a counterattack and Man doubling the lead minutes later after a slick one-two with Drăguș.
The second half offered few clear chances. Mitriță came close twice, and Alibec's long-range effort was stopped in added time.
Romania will next play a friendly against Canada on September 5, followed by an away qualifier against Cyprus on September 9.
