Romania to Join Schengen Area in 2025: PM Highlights Economic Benefits

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu has announced that Romania's accession to the Schengen Area will bring significant economic advantages and facilitate faster travel within the European Union, CE Report quotes Agerpres

"#Romania fully accedes to the #Schengen area starting January 1st 2025, following today's #JHA [Justice and Home Affairs Council] decision. A major benefit for our economy and faster journeys home for the millions of Romanians living and traveling in the #EU," Ciolacu shared on the social media platform X.

The decision, made by EU interior ministers during a meeting in Brussels, will allow Romania and Bulgaria to join the Schengen Area with land borders effective January 1, 2025.
