Police in northern Greece have dismantled an alleged criminal group accused of operating a loan-sharking scheme, lending money at usurious rates and extorting borrowers who were unable to repay their debts.

Four of the group's five alleged members, aged between 25 and 34, were arrested during a police operation by the Northern Greece Organized Crime Unit, CE Report quotes ANA-MPA.

Among those detained is a 34-year-old man believed to be one of the group's leaders.

Authorities have also identified the second alleged ringleader, a 31-year-old man who remains at large.

The investigation was launched following a complaint submitted to police and found that the group had allegedly been operating since at least June 2022.
