NATO intercepts Iranian missile heading toward Türkiye
A ballistic missile launched from Iran toward Turkish airspace was destroyed by NATO defense systems stationed in the eastern Mediterranean, Türkiye’s Ministry of Defense announced, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
“A ballistic missile launched from Iran, heading toward Turkish airspace after passing over Iraqi and Syrian airspace, was intercepted and neutralized in time by NATO air and missile defense elements deployed in the eastern Mediterranean. (…) The incident caused no casualties or injuries,” the Turkish ministry said in a statement published on X.
Turkey’s foreign minister conveyed Ankara’s protest to his Iranian counterpart over the launch of the ballistic missile toward Turkish airspace during a phone call on Wednesday, a Turkish diplomatic source told Reuters.
During the conversation, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi, that they must avoid any steps that could further escalate the conflict, the source added.
