Former South Korean president sentenced to prison
Former South Korean president Yoon Suk-yeol has been sentenced to five years in prison on charges ranging from obstruction of justice to offenses linked to the disastrous declaration of martial law on December 3, 2024, and its chaotic aftermath.
Seoul’s Central District Court issued the first ruling in what is expected to be a long series of legal proceedings against the former national prosecutor, who was removed from the presidency in April 2025 following impeachment approved by the Constitutional Court at the request of Parliament, CE Report quotes ANSA.
As reported by CE Report, Yoon also faces the death penalty if found guilty of insurrection in a separate trial that is still pending a verdict.
