Prince Andrew faces new scandal over alleged abuse of power
Prince Andrew’s renunciation of the Duke of York title and Order of the Garter, reportedly forced by his brother King Charles III due to his ties with the late convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein and the resurgence of other past scandals, may still not be enough to mark his fall from grace, CE Report quotes ANSA.
British media report new embarrassing revelations about the 65-year-old third child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
The latest, published by Mail on Sunday and Sunday Telegraph—both traditionally monarchist papers—refers to a 2011 email where Prince Andrew told the Queen’s press aide that he had asked a police officer assigned to his security to investigate Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s victims who accused Andrew of sexual misconduct when she was 17.
Andrew has always denied the allegations, though he paid a multi-million dollar settlement in 2022 to avoid trial.
The newspapers suggest the officer did not carry out the “spying,” but the move appears to be a potential abuse of power, using a state-assigned bodyguard for unauthorized personal investigations.
As a result, Scotland Yard has announced a preliminary investigation into the matter.
This adds to the damage to Andrew's already-tainted reputation, with some tabloids even speculating about a possible self-imposed exile abroad.
