Maxwell Transfer Sparks Fears of Tampering in Trump-Epstein Case
Democrats on the U.S. House Judiciary Committee have requested that the Department of Justice launch an investigation into Ghislaine Maxwell’s transfer to a lower-security prison, CE Report quotes ANSA.
They argue that the move raises suspicions of a possible attempt to conceal the extent of Donald Trump’s ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
Maxwell — the former girlfriend and accomplice of the convicted sex offender and financier — was moved from a Florida prison in Tallahassee, where she was serving a 20-year sentence, to a lower-security facility in Texas. The transfer reportedly occurred shortly after she met with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche last month.
Representative Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, stated that the new facility offers greater freedoms to inmates, and that such transfers had previously been strictly prohibited for those convicted of sexual offenses.
“These actions raise serious concerns that the administration may be attempting to tamper with a key witness, hide the nature of Trump’s relationship with Epstein, and possibly coerce Maxwell into giving false or misleading testimony to protect Trump,” Raskin said.
Raskin also noted in a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Bureau of Prisons Director William K. Marshall that the transfer appears to violate both DOJ and BOP policies.
