Switzerland eyes FIFA president to ease Trump’s tariffs

Politics

Switzerland looks for new ways to deal with Donald Trump's 39% mega-tariffs, second only to those imposed on Brazil and India — and one possible option is Gianni Infantino, CE Report quotes ANSA.

The FIFA president, originally from the Swiss town of Brig, has had a personal relationship with the tycoon for years, and some Swiss politicians believe he could be the key to reopening direct dialogue with the White House.

"It's time to act," urged National Council member Roland Buechel, a representative of the conservative Swiss People’s Party (UDC), suggesting involving Infantino as an informal intermediary, also due to his ties with Economy Minister Guy Parmelin, who is leading the negotiations together with Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter.

According to Swiss media, this strategy is also supported by former Swiss ambassador to Germany, Thomas Borer.
