Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with disability representatives on Monday to discuss the rapid success of Greece’s “Home Accessibility” program, which helps fund modifications like ramps and stair lifts for disabled individuals, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia

Due to overwhelming demand—over 2,500 applications within 24 hours and nearly 4,800 in five days—the government has increased the program’s budget by €10 million, raising the total to €34 million.

The initiative supports accessibility projects in primary and secondary residences, rental properties, shared apartment spaces, and workplaces. Projects are selected in consultation with disability organizations to maximize impact.

“This is a vital step for people living with disabilities to move freely and comfortably in their homes,” said Mitsotakis, who also announced future subsidies for electric wheelchairs.

Representatives praised the program as a long-awaited, groundbreaking move made accessible through a user-friendly platform.
