Greece Reopens Historic Consulate in Albania
Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis and Albanian counterpart Igli Hasani inaugurated the renovated “Seferis” building of the Greek Consulate General in Korce, Albania, on Monday, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia
The building once housed Greek diplomat and Nobel laureate George Seferis during his term as consul in 1936–37. Gerapetritis emphasized the importance of modernizing diplomatic missions and strengthening ties with the diaspora, noting the consulate’s restoration as part of broader Foreign Ministry efforts to upgrade facilities and digitalize services.
He also reaffirmed Greece’s commitment to regional stability and cooperation, rejecting revisionist border policies. The consulate’s renovation began with donations from Greek communities in Albania and Greece and was completed with state funding.
