Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced on Monday the creation of a special task force to recover EU agricultural subsidies wrongly paid by the OPEKEPE payments authority. Speaking at a cabinet meeting, Mitsotakis acknowledged the problem is more severe in Greece than elsewhere in the EU, citing long-standing state inefficiencies, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia

He emphasized that the government had already placed OPEKEPE under the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) and now seeks quick results through an investigation led by financial police and other oversight bodies.

Mitsotakis also highlighted the European Council’s recent conclusions as favorable for Greece, particularly regarding migration and sovereignty in the Eastern Mediterranean. He reaffirmed Greece’s right to explore within its Exclusive Economic Zone and criticized the Turkish-Libyan memorandum as illegal, echoing the Council’s stance.
