Gerapetritis: No Need for Constitutional Revision

Politics

Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis said there is no need to revise the 1975 Constitution during a conference marking its 50th anniversary at Zappeion Megaron. While acknowledging that revision could be beneficial, he emphasized that it is not necessary for improving political discourse, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia

He highlighted the importance of public trust in institutions—something he believes is currently lacking—and pointed to the 2001 constitutional revision as an example of the power of political consensus. On the issue of Justice, he stressed the need for bold reforms and a comprehensive examination of systemic problems. Gerapetritis also noted that overly detailed constitutions often signal a lack of trust between citizens and the political system.
