Mitsotakis: EPP Key to Europe’s Stability

Politics

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis declared that the European People’s Party (EPP) is the only political force capable of ensuring political stability and economic growth in Europe. Speaking at the EPP Conference in Valencia, he emphasized the need for EU-wide reforms to boost competitiveness and turn the Union into a "factory of growth" rather than a hub of overregulation, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

Highlighting Greece’s progress, Mitsotakis pointed to a €4.8 billion surplus achieved through reforms like fighting tax evasion. He urged that tough economic reforms must happen at the national level, warning against relying on Brussels to confront domestic populists.

Referencing the recent blackout in Spain and Portugal, he called for a more unified European energy market and stressed the urgency of enhancing Europe’s deterrent and defense capacities. He welcomed Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s regulatory simplification efforts and budgetary initiatives, while advocating for careful EU defense agreements with third countries.

Mitsotakis also called for stronger EU ties with emerging global powers, noting Greece’s strategic role in the EU-India relationship. He reaffirmed the importance of transatlantic ties, stating, “Our relationship with the US must come from a position of strength and confidence.”

Concluding, he affirmed New Democracy’s role as Greece’s engine of political stability and growth, adding that "success brings responsibility" at both the national and European levels.
