Moldova’s 11th legislative parliament now has 40 women MPs, the highest number in the country’s history, according to newly released data on International Women’s Day, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

The ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) has the most female representatives, with 27 women making up 43.5% of its faction. In the Communists and Socialists Bloc (BECS), women hold 34.5% of seats. Gender equality is also reflected in leadership roles—one deputy speaker, five out of 11 commission chairs, and over 30% of the standing bureau members are women.

Women also play a key role in the parliament’s administration, holding 76% of public official positions. Key legislative changes have been introduced to support gender equality, including amendments ensuring equal pay transparency, maternity leave benefits, and protections against gender-based violence. The parliament has also recognized femicide in legislation and ratified international conventions on workplace harassment.

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu extended his congratulations to women on International Women’s Day.
